ESL Writing What kind of writing do you like? Is writing
hard for you? Find the most difficult part about writing and attack
that area and free yourself up to enjoy writing. Definition = the act of forming visible letters or characters; visible signs of ideas, words, symbols; used to communicate or record Related Words = scratch, scrawl, scribble, write down, note Writing is important when you learn a language regardless of the language. You must learn to write in some way that will allow you to express a form of communication. Writing helps remember what it is that you want to learn. The sooner you learn to write the sooner you start building a good vocabulary. Always have a dictionary handy to check the spelling of a word. Depending on the age of the student and the language to be learned, the student should start with something simple to build confidence. I would recommend coping articles or stories from books, magazines, and journals. It will generate a better understanding of the language. Tutoring a student for writing capabilities
is different
than writing to acquire spelling, vocabulary, and understanding of the
language. Never be afraid to write and make mistakes. That is how you
learn the
language, by doing the work. Don't worry about being critized for not
writing as if you have several years of experience. Now I write to help other people understand
that it is OK to be different. If you have something to say, put it
down on paper. Everything we do is an expression of who we are. I like
helping students have a feeling of confidence. Keep on writing.
