ESL Teacher

ESL Teacher

Part 3

Are you ready to go to a different country and work as an English Conversation Teacher? Are you ready to work in any country?

The contract you receive might be one page or 10 pages long. Don’t forget to request a copy of the contract from all the invitations you receive. Depending on the country they should be able to send you an email with the contract as an attachment. Print a hard copy of each contract and make a folder for all of them. Also file the contracts on your computer into an ESL contract folder. Keep all the email invitations separate by school, recruiter, country, city, salary range, or any other way as a reference. Don’t be too hasty choosing a place to teach. Start your campaign early looking for a place to teach. Do some research and surf around to forums and ask questions on anything. Remember that we all have differences and what you like someone else might not like.

Regardless where you go please respect the culture and their ideas, religion, government, laws, policies, and general way of doing things. A so-called democratic society does not have all the answers. If they ask for suggestions, that is different. It will help you to do some research about the country you are planning to teach. Above all don’t take second hand information unless you can read between the lines.

If you have never been outside the country you are living, remember the food, water, air and general living conditions will be different. You are an ambassador of your country. The attitude you express can effect other people and how they think about your country.

Depending on your situation try to have a contact from the country you are from. Make sure the contact is a responsible person.
